青梅の十角/Ōme's Square

奥多摩地域の玄関口、青梅市の多摩川右岸に建つ平屋の個人住宅。
敷地は準工業地域にあり、周辺には小中規模の工場、資材置場、住宅、その合間に畑などが並び、生産の場と生活の場の距離が近しく感じられる。
敷地北面は、多摩川水系の流れが形成した段丘地形による断崖を含む緑地帯。南東西面は隣地や河川を挟みながら道路に面している。あらゆる方向から建物の姿が目に付く事から、全方位に均整の取れた姿を見せるために方形屋根を採用した。
内部は、形態や陰影に重きを置いた抽象度の高い表現を行いながら、要所に木材の質感やディテールを施す事で、モノとしての安定感や安心感を与えている。
南面には土間を配し、客間や第二の居間、そして小規模な商いの場「見世」として多用途に活用される事を想定し、隣接するように団欒の場を中央に大きく据えることで、空間の大らかさを手に入れるだけでなく、商空間としても堪える意匠的強度を持たせた。
奇をてらわない平滑な納まりや懐かしい設えを現代的な意匠に織り交ぜながら、建築に関わる人たちにどこまで「思い出してもらえるか」「面白いと思ってもらえるか」がテーマのひとつとなっていた。
日常使いの職住一体の場、その起点となり得る素形を想い描き、ひとつの点を打つに至った。

This one-story private residence stands on the right bank of the Tama River in Ome City, the gateway to the Okutama region.
The site is located in a semi-industrial zone, and the surrounding area is lined with small and medium-sized factories, material storage facilities, residences, and fields in between, giving the impression of a close distance between the place of production and the place of daily life.
The northern side of the site is a greenbelt that includes cliffs formed by the terraced terrain of the Tama River system. The southeast and west sides of the site face the road with the neighboring land and the river in between. Since the building is visible from all directions, a square roof was adopted in order to present a balanced appearance in all directions.
The interior is highly abstract, with emphasis on form and shading, while wood textures and details are used in key areas to provide a sense of stability and security as an object.
The earthen floor on the south side is intended to be used as a guest room, a second living room, or a small-scale business space called “mise-en-scene.” By placing a large, adjoining space for entertaining in the center, we not only achieved a generous space, but also provided design strength to support it as a commercial space.
The design of this space, a place that integrates work and residence for daily use, was conceived as a starting point, and a single point was reached.
